Used Car Values

There are many good reasons why you may want to buy a used car. Many have a new car as the family car, but when they need a second or even third car, they may not want to add yet another car payment to the budget. Some know they are going to be rough on a car, and they don’t want to invest in something that they are going to destroy rather quickly. Other times, it is all they can afford, and they don’t think a new car is something that they need. In any event, when buying used, it is essential to make sure you know used car values so that you are getting a good deal on a good vehicle.

It can be hard to know the used car values of every car made in every single year that you may be looking for when searching. That means you should have an idea of what you want before you shop. You can usually look around at any lot or through listings online to see what type of car or truck you want, and what years might be the best for your needs. You can always find something that is just a few years old for almost half of the original price. Leased vehicles are often nice, even though someone had them for a few years. Once you know what you might want, you can then find out about the used car values for those makes and models, and you will have a better idea of what you should be spending.

When you finally start shopping for your car, you can then have a list of used car values with you. You can find these online in some cases, or you can always look through the ‘blue book’ to find out more about each car and what goes into determining worth and value. Having that list with you will help you know if you are getting a good vehicle for a good price, or if you might want to haggle with the price. If you aren’t happy, you can always go with something or someone else.

Besides knowing the used car values for the models you are considering, you also have to know something about cars and trucks. You don’t want to buy something that looks good on the outside, but might not work so well on the inside. Don’t worry too much if you don’t know, however, as there are many who do. Simply take the car or truck to a mechanic you trust to have them give it a look over and a test run. They can tell you if you are getting a good deal or not, or if you are going to have major problems with the vehicle in the future.

Sound Systems For Cars

Sound systems for cars can now do more than just play music, but if you love your music, this is the feature that you should concentrate on when shopping. You want something that uses the technology that you use so you don’t have to go out and replace all of your music just to play it in your car. If you still prefer to listen to CDs, perhaps a system that plays them, along with digital forms in the event you upgrade in the future, is the best option for you. If you use both, this choice is perfect.

One mistake that some people make is getting sound systems for cars is to get something that is far too big for the car. You may think that everyone within a block of you wants to hear what you are playing, but trust me when I say that they do not. If you play your music that loud, no matter how good your car system may be, it is not going to sound good to you in the car. Instead, you want something that offers you sharp, clear music as it is supposed to sound without causing hearing damage.

One of the best ways to get a good sound system is to find out what people are using that have cars like yours and that like the same type of sound that you do. Most good sound systems for cars are completely changeable and you can set them to your specific likes for sound, but there are some that are just make for music that might be more bass heavy, etc. Though what someone else chooses may not be what you want, you can get an idea of what you may want to look into buying when you are shopping. Go to audio shops in your area, and shop online for comparable systems online to see where you are going to save the most.

Some sound systems for cars are so nice that you may be upping your risk for car theft just by having one installed. If you worry that this may be a problem, get something that has built in theft deterrents. You want something that has a removable face, or any other comparable theft proofing, so that the system can not be used unless you are the one in the car. You should also invest in a good alarm for your car if you fear your new system is going to make your car a top choice for someone looking for a free ride.

Should You Get a Sport Utility Vehicle?

Now that gas prices are high, and most think they will stay that way, people are more concerned about what they drive. This is because some vehicles are very bad in regards to gas mileage. When money is an issue, as it is with most Americans, paying high gas prices can mean giving up other things. When looking to save money, cars are better on gas they the sport utility vehicle, but that does not stop some from owning them. This is a personal choice, and some think that the lower gas mileage is worth what they love about the SUV.

There are many reasons why some love the sport utility vehicle. I have driven them from time to time, though I do not own one. I understand why some love them so much. They are fun to drive, and they are also great when you are on the highway. The gas mileage does vary though, and I’m not sure that I could afford to drive one for very long. However, if gas were not an issue, I would think that the next vehicle that I would own would be a sport utility vehicle.

Another great thing about the sport utility vehicle is that they give you more room than almost any type of car can. That means you can do more and take more with you, and you don’t have to worry about moving smaller things. When you only have a car, even having two children and going on the road can be just too tight of a squeeze. When you drive sport utility vehicles, this is rarely a problem. The kids have more room to move and stretch out, and you have more storage space in the back for whatever it is that you want to take with you.

If you don’t mind the gas prices, there is no reason why you should not get a sport utility vehicle if that is what you want. What you should know is that there are many different ones out there, much like cars, and that means you have to take your time to look around. Drive quite a few in different sizes and made by different manufacturers to be sure you get the one that works best for you. You have to feel comfortable behind the well of any vehicle. The better you feel, the safer you and your family will be.

Car Security System

Let me tell you about something that happened to me a few years back. I had just arrived at a clinic, where I was taking my teenage daughter in for a check-up. As I strolled casually through the parking level, I noticed that we were a bit late. I encouraged my daughter to hurry. Just as we were exiting the parking level, a man approached us, wanting my help with his car. He claimed that he couldn’t get it started. And for some odd reason he thought I would be able to. Yeah right! I know nothing about cars, and this sounded like a lure to me. My guess is he wanted to get me in the right position so that he could use my daughter against me. Maybe a robbery or something. I told him I was in a hurry and moved on. After the appointment was through, and we were returning to our vehicle, a blaring car security alarm echoed through the parking level. It seemed as though the man tried to assault a woman, but she sounded her car alarm, and a nearby police officer responded. He was now in hand cuffs. And yes, the lady was very fortunate.

What can a car security system do for you? Hmm, let’s see; there are a number of beneficial features. First you have the obvious attention-getting alarm noise. You can set this off from your keychain at any time in order to draw eyes and scare off predators. It really does work. Criminals dread tons of attention. They want to move about unnoticed. Secondly, most car security systems have simple driver’s side door access. You thumb the UNLOCK button once and it only unlocks the driver’s door, hence leaving you less vulnerable. Then there’s the remote start feature. You can literally start your vehicle’s engine as you approach it. All while keeping it on lock-down. This makes for a speedy getaway. Other features you may enjoy are sensor alarms and noise alarms. If you have a convertible, the top can be left down and still secured. If someone reaches inside, the car security alarm will sound. If a window is shattered, the alarm system will activate and scream to draw attention.

Let’s not forget about one of the obvious advantages to a high-tech car security system. Keeping predators and criminals out! The last thing you want is for a thug to creep into your vehicle and hide out while you’re at work or in a shopping center. This would make for an awful surprise. Keep your vehicle armed and you have nothing to worry about.

Car Accidents

Posted on June 13, 2015 in Safety

No one wants to think they could be involved in car accidents, but there are many times when this is just what happens. Driving is easy enough, but there are times when drivers are distracted or the weather is bad, and things happened. No one wants to think that they are going to need to use their car insurance, but it can be a reality for anyone. It takes more than just insurance though, you have to know who to call and what to do. You also have to know how to avoid the accidents in the first place.

My husband always tells me to relax when he’s driving because he knows what he is doing and he is a good driver. He’s never been in any car accidents since he got his license. I tell him that he is a good driver, yes, but that does not mean the people coming towards him are good drivers. Everyone thinks they are a good driver, but there are enough car accidents and near misses to let us know otherwise. It’s not just about how well you drive, it’s also about how well you pay attention to how others drive.

Good drivers get distracted and that leads to car accidents. Cell phones were blamed for a long time, and people started using hands free units in their cars. Sadly, that is not the issue. Though holding the phone is a problem, the bigger problem is concentrating on what they other person is saying. That is the real distraction. Now an even bigger problem has emerged and it has everything to do with texting with the cell phone. Trying to read text messages and type them out to send is even worse, and it could be causing even more car accidents.

The best thing to do is let the voicemail pick up the phone while driving, and to ignore texts until you can pull over to read them. This could reduce come car accidents, especially among the younger generation. When it comes to know what to do when car accidents occur, make sure insurance information and a phone number to reach the company are in the car somewhere. Hopefully an accident will be a small one, and whomever is driving can call for help on their own, and alert the insurance company. No one wants to have an accident, but knowing how to remain alert and what to do if one occurs are great things to teach anyone.

Car Safety Features

Posted on May 8, 2015 in Safety

When I was young and single, I wasn’t as worried about car safety features as I am now that I have a family. Suddenly, the airbags and other safety items were much more important than the type of sound system in the car or what the seats are made out of. In fact, leather seats don’t really do much for me, as I know my five year old will make short work of destroying them. Instead, I focus on a good looking car that has all I need to keep her as safe as I can while we are out on the road together.

One most impressive of the newer car safety features is the On Star program that I believe is only available at this time through General Motors. Other companies may have the same thing, but I am not aware of it if they do. At any rate, this is something that I think all cars should have, and it should come standard. This allows anyone at anytime to call for help when something happens. This also allows someone to get their car unlocked if they lock the keys in or can’t find them. I’m not sure what else that system can do, but those things are valuable all on their own.

Car safety features otherwise are getting better and better. Airbag systems are more effective, and they have found many great ways to improve them. Braking systems are getting better at preventing the car from locking up so the driver has more control in dangerous weather conditions. Glass is made so that it will not shatter into the car when broken, but will instead break but remain somewhat intact upon impact. Child safety looks have been around for a while, but are still very important car safety features that any parents should ask for when buying a new or even a used car.

As time goes on, new and improved car safety features are going to come up, and though nothing can make a car completely safe, they are going to make things even better. One brand, though that brand escapes me at the moment, has a sensor in the car that can detect a heartbeat. That means if someone is hiding in a car, the owner can have that information before the approach their vehicle. That would mean less women and children will be harmed. Those are car safety features that you simply can’t put a price on.

Lemon Law

In 1975, a victory for consumers was won when Democrats Senator Magnuson from Washington and Senator Moss of Utah successfully enacted the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This federal law protects consumers who have paid more than $25 for a product, which comes with a warranty and falls below standards of quality. As vehicles that fall into this category are called lemons, the part of the act that refers to vehicles is nicknamed the Lemon Law.

This law protects citizens in every state but some states might not cover used or leased vehicles. Under the law, manufacturers have a duty to refund the buyer or to replace the defect. They must be given three opportunities to try to fix the problem, but no more. Consumer’s rights, as laid out in the Lemon Law, go beyond the manufacturer’s warranty. The majority of states provide that the manufacturer must pay the legal fees if a lawsuit is pursued. This means that manufacturers are apt to settle out of court. Rules for used cars vary, according to the warranty and conditions of purchase. There is no protection under the Lemon Law for people who bought vehicles on an ‘as is’ basis. Sometimes, a supplier will buy back a defective vehicle from a purchaser, fix the vehicle and sell it as a used car through a car auction.

Even used vehicles with no warranty may still be helped by the Lemon Law in certain circumstances. The law may apply if the seller has knowingly sold the consumer a lemon or if the vehicle has been salvaged prior to sale. The buyer may be protected if it is proved that the odometer has been turned back or if the vehicle had previously suffered flood damage. Vehicles that have been stolen or re-built may also come under the law.

The category of vehicle, protected under the law, extends beyond cars. RV vehicles are also included, along with motorcycles, wheelchairs and boats. Computers are also listed under protection. Common situations, whereupon the law is used, are problems with transmission, brakes or steering. Electrical systems and paint defects are another reason. In addition to engine problems and finish defects, there may be annoying occurrences, such as unpleasant odors or unexplained noises.

This is a law that has variations in each state and consumers need to check the specific law, governing their area. It’s advisable to consult an attorney or consumer group for information and advice.
